JEDDAH: Pakistan has inaugurated a new Chancery building for its Consulate General in Jeddah recently, underscoring the country’s efforts to strengthen diplomatic outreach and improve services for millions of Pakistanis living and working in Saudi Arabia.

The new facility was inaugurated by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, during a formal ceremony attended by the Ambassador of Pakistan to Saudi Arabia, Mr. Ahmad Farooq, Saudi officials, Consul General Syed Mustafa Rabbani, and representatives of the Pakistani expatriate community.

The ceremony included the hoisting of Pakistan’s national flag, a symbolic tree plantation, ribbon-cutting, and unveiling of a commemorative plaque, followed by prayers reflecting the close ties between Pakistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. A short video presentation introduced guests to the building’s modern infrastructure and service-oriented design.

Speaking at the event, Senator Ishaq Dar highlighted the importance of efficient consular services in supporting labor mobility, travel facilitation, and the well-being of overseas Pakistanis. He acknowledged the cooperation of Saudi authorities in completing the project and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to upgrading diplomatic facilities in key host countries.

After touring the premises, the Deputy Prime Minister authorized the early transfer of consular operations to the new building, aiming to enhance service efficiency and accessibility.

Western Saudi Arabia is home to approximately 1.8 million Pakistanis, many of whom are engaged in sectors linked to travel, tourism, construction, healthcare, and services. The new Chancery is expected to play a vital role in addressing the documentation, travel, and welfare needs of the community, while also strengthening people-to-people connections and diplomatic cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
